Oh, oops… I mean greetings from Moscow, comrades!
For the first time, AirlineReporter is venturing into the heart of the former Soviet Union. Our own resident Soviet/Russian aviation experts, Bernie Leighton and Kris Hull, are on their way to Moscow, to the famed Zhukovsky Airfield for the biennial MAKS Airshow August 25th through 30th. Formally known as the International Aviation and Space Salon, this week-long show highlights the best that the aviation and space industry of the Russian Federation and former Soviet Republics have to offer.
One of the largest industry trade shows, along with Paris, Farnborough, Dubai, and Singapore, companies such as MiG, Sukhoi, Ilyushin, and Yakovlev, along with other CIS country organizations, will be showcasing their latest and best products – it promises to be a great event. The show is an international showcase, however.
Representatives from all over the globe, from the powerhouses of Airbus and Boeing to burgeoning groups such as China’s Harbin will be in attendance, featuring the best their companies have to offer. On the ground, the latest in CIS aerospace will be on display alongside historic aircraft, such as the infamous Tupolev Tu-144 supersonic transport. In the air, Russia’s aerobatic teams, rivaling the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels or RAF Red Arrows, will display their Mig-29s and Su-27s alongside other cutting edge aircraft, such as the Sukhoi Superjet.
