Space Oddity: Watch a Scale 2015 Ford Mustang Fly to (and Fall From) Space!

2015 Ford Mustang in space

Going where no Ford Mustang has gone before, a tiny example of the 2015 model has reached . . . space. Previously, the Ford had managed only to kiss the sky from the Empire State building’s observation deck in full-size convertible form. We hope it took this version took its protein pills and put its helmet on.

Clearly having made the grade, the Mustang model—apparently the same as those Ford has been handing out at recent auto shows—steps through the door and into the stratosphere, courtesy of a weather balloon. (What, no rocket?) After reaching a claimed altitude of 21 miles, the Mustang’s balloon pops. Major Tom to Dearborn, we have a problem.

The Mustang plummets back to earth in a Felix Baumgartner–esque spin, finally crashing into what looks like a field. Surprisingly, this towering stunt wasn’t imagined by Ford itself; instead, California dealership Big Valley Ford put on the show to celebrate the Mustang’s 50th anniversary.
