This could be the last Boeing 777-200 built. Reg #HL8284.
This Asiana Airlines Boeing 777-200ER took off from Paine Field on Friday a little bit before 10:00am heading to South Korea. Typically a 777 being delivered is not a huge deal, but this could turn out to be the very last Boeing 777-200ER ever built.
“At the present time, there are no 777-200ERs in the production system,” Boeing spokesperson Elizabeth Fischtziur confirmed to AirlineReporter.com. However, Boeing is still offering the model to airlines and the 777-200LR still have deliveries set until 2014.
The Boeing 777-200 was the first 777 option offered to airlines and was first was delivered to United Airlines on the 15th of May, 1995. Since then, there have been nine different airlines who have operated the -200 and almost 90 have been delivered.
In 1997, Boeing delivered their first 777-200ER model, which offered airlines additional range. The ER was more popular with 33 different airlines operating almost 420 examples.
There was a demand for a longer range aircraft and Boeing offered the 777-200LR, which currently is the world’s longest non-stop ranged airliner. It was first delivered in February 2006 and the last example was delivered earlier this month.
If there are no orders in the near future after the last -200LR gets delivered, there is a chance that could end up being the very last 777-200 passenger version ever produced. Good thing we have there are plenty of outstanding orders for the 777-300ER and we also have the 777-8X and 777-9X in the future.
