From http://www.apple.com/jp/retail/ginza/. The translation says something about "selecting a carrier," which means that Apple might be adding carriers in Japan. Right now it's only Softbank, if we recall correctly.
TUAW staffers and volunteers add this translation: ""On October 14, it will launch at 8 a.m. at the Apple Store. Let our staff help choose the carrier and rate plan that's right for you. Our staff will have your iPhone ready to use before leaving the store. Learn more (link)"
The dates tie in to our previous coverage of employee blackout dates.
