2014 Chevrolet Spark EV to Have 114 HP, 31 More than Gas Model:

Just a handful of days ago, Chevrolet announced details on the U.S.-spec Spark minicar, including plans to offer an all-electric version in 2013. Only a tiny morsel of info was given on the Spark EV, but we now know its permanent-magnet electric motor will produce 114 hp, some 31 hp more than the conventional Spark’s gas-fired 1.2-liter four-cylinder. It’s probably safe to assume, however, that the extra power will merely compensate for the added heft of the EV’s battery pack and not add any speed, so don’t get delusional about stoplight drags in an electric Spark. Or any Spark for that matter: Our biggest complaint from our first drive of the conventional Spark was an utter lack of motivation. The Spark EV’s electric motor will be built in-house at a GM plant in White Marsh, Maryland. For more on the 2013 Spark and 2014 Spark EV, click here.
