Embraer 500 Nears Fuselage-Wing Mating: The first Embraer 500 airframe is on schedule for a first flight before the end of this year, and the fuselage is presently being outfitted with internal systems, cable harnesses and equipment. The first aircraft, shown here in Aviation week photos, is covered in a protective coating that protects it from the weather as it is moved around the manufacturing complex in Sao Jose dos Campos.
First Embraer 500 fuselage gets wings, tail and engines next (top). Workers are stuffing the innards now.
Embraer's manufacturing center here grew in an ad hoc fashion as hangars were added with each stage of growth. The result is that there is no centralized large facility for a continuous production line, and aircraft are moved from place to place to proceed through the manufacturing stations.
