Images of BMW’s M5 Concept Leak Ahead of Super Sedan’s Shanghai Debut

Images of BMW’s M5 Concept Leak Ahead of Super Sedan’s Shanghai Debut: "

BMW was planning to debut its next-gen M5 under a sheer veil of concept-car status at the Shanghai auto show later this month, and official pics of the car would have been released to the public some time in the next week or two. But through the magical realism of the information age, images of Bavaria’s upcoming 500-plus-hp monster traveled from a preview event in Germany to a Russian automotive website—and, now, onto your computer screen. (While this sort of international information smuggling might have made Konrad Adenauer plotz in 1955, the process is so prosaic now, it’s nearly news when pictures of some automaker’s next best-ever car don’t leak out.)

You’ll have to click over to Transmissia.net for the full set of shots (set your Google-Chrome phasers to translate!), but it doesn’t take Jules Verne’s imagination to picture an M-ified 5-series. Big wheel arches, massive brakes, and a full aero kit were always sure things, as were the set of organ pipes for the exhaust outlets.

Our own intelligence department has provided a preview of what you can expect for the F10 M5 here, which gets into detail about the twin-turbocharged V-8 and many of the car’s other macho details. If you’re a glutton for all things M GmbH, you’ll no doubt enjoy BMW’s half-hour-long B-roll video for the new car as well.

Keep an eye on this space in the near future for the full story on the new M5. Whoever said pictures are worth a thousand words had never heard of a high-performance automobile’s spec sheet.
